Historic New Bridge Landing – River Edge

Historic New Bridge Landing site is where George Washington and the Continental Army made a retreat in November of 1776 after the disastrous battle of Brooklyn Heights. Site also features the Zabriskie-Von Steuben House which is listed on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places. This maintained by the NJ Division of Parks and Forestry museum features collections from the period. Please call 201-487-1739 for museum information and viewing hours.

Baylor Masacre Site – River Vale

The Baylor Masacre in history is also known as Tappan Massacre. It occurred on September 27, 1778 during the American Revolutionary War as an attack on the 3rd Regiment of Continental Light Dragoons which was under the command of Colonel Geore Baylor. It took place in the present-day town of River Vale.

Easton Tower – Paramus

Camp Merrit Memorial Monument – Cresskill

Campbell – Christie House – River Edge

County-owned historic sandstone house build c. 1774, moved from New Milford in 1977. Listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places and located at Historic New Bridge Landing Historic Park. Serves as headquarters for the Bergen County Historic Society. BCHS offers exhibits, colonial furnishings and special programming.

Garretson Farm – Fair Lawn

County-owned historic sandstone farmhouse with outbuildings. Small wing section built c. 1720 and main house built c. 1800. Listed on the State and National Register of Historic places. Museum and gardens run by Garretson Forge & Farm Restoration, Inc. Features restored colonial kitchen and gardens of heirloom herbs and vegetables. Three annual festivals with hands-on activities.

Gethsemane Cemetery – Little Ferry

County-owned historic site established in 1860 – 1930 for the purpose of burying African-Americans. Listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places, the cemetery played a significant role in New Jersey’s late 19th century Civil Rights legislation. Wortendyke Barn – Park Ridge

County-owned mid 18th century New World Dutch barn, one of few left in Bergen County. Erected on the Wortendyke family’s farm (1735 – 1851). Contains exhibit on the development of agriculture in Bergen County.

Kearney House – Alpine

Kearney House in Alpine is listed on the National and New Jersey State Historic Registers. It is the oldest building in the New Jersey Section of the Palisades Interstate Park. Built around 1761, during its century’s old history, the house was a Hudson River homestead, a riverfront tavern, a Park police station and a historic shrine. It was acquired by Palisades Interstate Park in 1907.
